I used ableton live to make my project. I chose to use four instruments with similar sounds.  I used a melody, chords, bass, and synth.

Atmospheric
In class we did atmospheric music and a slideshow. I chose to do a story of a ballerina growing up for my slideshow. I decided what the story should be and i looked up pictures of ballerinas. The story is about a little girl wanting to do ballet then actually becoming a professional ballet dancer, she then goes on to having her own baby girl and her girl aspires to be a ballerina when she grows up. You can see the change in the end of the slides that signifies the ballerinas next step in her life. I put the slides together in iPhoto and made sure to tell her story.

I used Push and Ableton Live to improvise a melody and chords in E aeolian mode. I added the notes C and F at the end in the bass. The melody and chords are often out-of-phase, since we learned about minimalist music when creating our atmospheric project. I also added some auto panning and reverb to give an atmospheric sound. I then timed the music to go with the slides in iPhoto and exported the slideshow.

I learned different sounds and instruments from listening to "Within You Without You" by George Harrison. It's really interesting that there are so many different genres of music that I've never heard of before. The choices I made choosing instruments and sounds for the rhythm, melody, and harmony were a little different than my other compositions. I decided to mix the melody, rhythm, and harmony with techno/electronic clips to create a more modern and american sounds.

Dance into the remix

  1. Warping is an essential part of making almost any type of remix. The process of warping is the act of lining parts of the song with the beat. In some cases songs will get off beat over time because humans are not exact. For instance, in the song “A view to a kill” the drummer does a large hit at the end of almost every measure which actually lags the beat a little bit. Warping in Ableton is easy because it automatically places warp markers (parts of the song that are off beat.) In my song specifically I had to move dozens of markers.
